Shrilekha Sikander (b. 1950)

Shrilekha Sikander was born in 1950 and has received her Masters from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M S University, Baroda.
Living in Mumbai, where the hub of the Indian film industry or ‘Bollywood’ is located, Sikander has learnt the language of films, and paints the many characters that make up their fantastical stories – both real and imaginary. She has participated in many shows since her graduation.
Some of her solo shows include ‘Mixed and Overlapped’ at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2009; ‘Madness and Play’ at Gallery Beyond, Mumbai in 2008; Gallery Chemould as part of the Kala Ghoda Art Festival, Mumbai in 2006; and Fine Art Company, Mumbai in 2002. Amongst the group shows in which her work has been featured are those held at Point of View Gallery, Mumbai in 2007; ‘The Female Hero’ at Lemongrasshopper, Ahmedabad in 2006; ‘Novel Notations: a Diverse Spectrum of Subjectivities’ in Hyderabad in 2006; and ‘Creative Collaborations Extending the Frame’ organized by Turmeric Earth at Kitab Mahal, Mumbai in 2005.
She lives and works in Mumbai.
