Prabhakar Kolte (b. 1946)

Prabhakar Kolte was born in 1946 in Nerur Par, Maharashtra and did his diploma from the J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. He later taught at the institute from 1972 – 1994. During his initial years, Kotle took inspiration from the works of Paul Klee, a Swiss artist, and this was evident on the canvas. His bold use of strong and bright colours creates a unique signature for his paintings.
He has had several solo shows and participated in group exhibitions including ‘Art- Mosaic- celebration of Calcutta’s Tercentenary’, Calcutta & Mumbai, ‘Wounds’, CIMA Gallery, Calcutta, ‘Parallel Perceptions’, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, ‘Watercolours: A Broader Spectrum-II’, Mumbai, ‘Three Artists’, Hong Kong and Galerie Foundation for Indian Artists, Amsterdam, ‘Six Indian Painters’ curated by Geeta Kapur at Yugoslavia, Ankara and Istanbul. Kolte lives and works in Mumbai.
